This piece contemplates the act of observing a performer's body, through a dance which takes place in absolute darkness. Here the performer explores the relationship between movement, sound, and space. The dancer incorporates specific choreographic elements as well as improvisation. By initially focusing on brass, the material from which footbells known as Salangai are made, the performer experiments with different metals, their accompanying sounds, and the movements that generate them. This exploration invites the audience to actively listen to the dance. Darkness as a location poses a fundamental philosophical question, on what is present, what is absent, how we interpret both and attribute meaning to it through aesthetics attached to the seen. This piece encourages viewers to question their own perspectives and consider what dance means to them individually, as well as within the broader cultural context of various societies. This piece is the artist's initial exploration of the relationship between movement and sound.
